I'm an experienced and enthusiastic English and Drama tutor, with a great passion for helping my students thrive. I graduated with an English degree from the University of Cambridge, and I have just completed Masters in Advanced Theatre Practice at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. I have expert knowledge in both subjects and I'm extremely enthusiastic about sharing it. I began tutoring prior to my graduation from Cambridge, and since then I have encountered a variety of students with diverse needs and backgrounds. I go to great lengths to ensure I tailor each tutorial to the student's needs and that adequate study materials are shared in advance of every lesson. I am a believer that lessons should be engaging and fun, as well as rigorous. I work to both challenge my tutees and help them feel more confident in their abilities. I guide them towards being able to achieve top quality in their independent work. Complementary to tutoring, I have experience as a house manager and activities organiser in summer schools that teach English as a foreign language. I am an accomplished drama workshop leader and enjoy teaching performing arts. I am a writer and theatre director.
How would you describe your teaching style?
My teaching style is tailored to the needs of each student. First and foremost, I listen to their needs and adapt accordingly. On the whole, I prioritise regular practical application of knowledge: this means that lessons are interactive and keep the student engaged in exercises throughout, rather than passively listening. I encourage students to ask questions and be honest about what they are struggling with, and I am happy to find new ways of explaining topics. I plan my lessons thoroughly beforehand, and provide study materials whenever possible. I set homework regularly, according to the student's availability. Most of all, I make sure the lessons are engaging and fun, and try to pass my love for the subject to the student.
What qualifications do you have?
I am a University of Cambridge graduate, where I completed my BA in English in 2017. I wrote two first-class dissertations and finished my degree with a 2:1 grade. I recently completed my MFA in Advanced Theatre Practice at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, in London.
Tell us about your experience...
I have been tutoring regularly, both online and face-to-face, since prior to my graduation from my BA in 2017. I have taught students from a variety of levels, backgrounds and needs. Some of my students have been native English speakers, some have been learning English as a second language. I am able to adapt to all levels, from beginner to A-level. I mostly tutor English language and literature, but have a wealth of experience teaching and leading Drama workshops. I am billingual and fluent in Portuguese (having been schooled in both languages).
What locations do you tutor in?
I tutor online, but also face-to-face (although this is now restricted due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic). When it becomes safe, I am happy receive students at home (in Surrey Quays/Deptford), and to travel around this area to locations such as Canada Water, New Cross and Greenwich.
What is your personal message to students?
I am here to help you improve both your grades and your enjoyment of the subjects. I am happy to listen and adapt to your queries and needs. School can be difficult, but I am here to alleviate the pressure, strengthen your confidence and help you achieve the best results you are capable of!
