I am a private tutor specialising in autism and sen. I run 2 tuition classes on Saturday's for children aged 3-17 years old. I have worked as a tutor for the past five years. I have taught 1-1 and both small and large groups. The individuals that I work with all have special educational needs and some have behavioural issues. Raising levels of self-confidence and self-esteem of the individual has proved to be imperative to progress in learning. I currently tutor children and young people on the autistic spectrum, or who have other special educational needs or speech and language difficulties and some have behavioural issues. I teach 1-1 and both small and large groups. I run 2 tuition classes on Saturday's for children aged 3-17 years old. I also run a home-school group on weekdays. The interventions and strategies I use are individual to each student and based on years of experience tutoring children with SEN on a 1-1 basis who either attend mainstream or specialist schools. I also act as an advisor/advocate for them and their families and provide consultation services.
How would you describe your teaching style?
I take a holistic approach to tutoring as I’ve found that tutoring a child with SEN is much more than academic achievement. My background is multidisciplinary so my knowledge of child development, child/youth counselling, working with children with challenging behaviour, counselling, education, culture, and autism (which is my specialist area) all have a place in how I communicate and teach
