Hola a todos! I am a bilingual Spanish and English tutor from Hertfordshire. I have been living in Madrid, Spain for the past 7 years, where I have been teaching English as a foreign language. I have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to teach students of all ages and abilities in Spain, from young children to adults. As a native English teacher I ran my own business in Spain, offering tailored-classes to a wide range of primary and secondary school children and adults. My English school has enjoyed great success with my students achieving excellent grades in their English exams and my students have returned to me year after year, which must be a positive sign! As I have gained a native-like proficiency in Spanish I would now like to have the opportunity to pass on my passion and specialised knowledge of the Spanish language and culture to students in Hertfordshire.

How would you describe your teaching style?

I endeavour to make my classes as interactive and dynamic as possible. I believe that it is very important to create an environment in which students feel at ease and enjoy learning the language, at the same time as feeling challenged and stretched. I like to encourage and motivate my students by creating a very authentic Spanish atmosphere in my classes; I do this by embedding authentic Spanish material such as songs, newspaper articles and current Spanish news into the lessons. Offering students maximum exposure to the language and immersing them in the language as much as possible is key to improving their language skills. I am very passionate about the Spanish language and culture and, as such, I like to teach my students about the Spanish culture and way of life as well as the language itself, as I believe that a language is a living thing, a lifestyle and a culture bound together. The aim of my classes is to make students feel as comfortable as possible, while simultaneously stretching them and encouraging them to try and to practise and never to be afraid of making mistakes. Spanish is a wonderful language to learn and I believe that the learning process should be as interactive and dynamic as possible, offering students plenty of opportunity to speak and to put their language skills into practice in authentic, everyday situations.

What qualifications do you have?

I graduated from Durham University in 2008 with a BA(HONS) degree in Modern Languages and Cultures. I achieved a 2:1 with a distinction in spoken Spanish. I also graduated from Tefl Lab in Bloomsbury, London in 2010 with a Trinity CERT TESOL qualification; this certificate has enabled me to work as a teacher of English as a foreign language in Spain. I am currently studying a Master's degree in Translation and Interpreting in Spanish at the University of Westminster, London.

Tell us about your experience...

The vast majority of my students in Spain were primary and secondary school pupils, all of whom achieved excellent results in their school exams and returned to me year after year. For this reason I would like to offer my knowledge and expertise of the Spanish language to young students preparing for their GCSE and A-level exams, as well as adults who are looking to learn Spanish for business or personal purposes. I understand how important it is to find a suitable tutor and, as such, I would like to emphasise that I am a very caring teacher and my students' happiness and success in improving their Spanish is the priority for me. I have gained vast and invaluable experience teaching English as a foreign language to students in Spain. The experience of working within professional teams of teachers at primary and secondary schools in Spain offered me a fantastic insight into teaching methodologies and I have gained excellent teaching skills through these experiences. In addition to teaching in schools, I also taught at various private English academies, where I had the opportunity to work as part of a team of dedicated English teachers, research teaching materials and prepare my classes. I taught classes of young children from the age of 4 years upwards, as well as groups of adults preparing for Cambridge and Trinity exams such as First Certificate and Advanced. Most recently, I set up my own business offering private tuition to primary and secondary children and adults. I believe that the teaching experience I have gained while living in Spain has endowed me with the necessary skills to be an excellent Spanish tutor in the UK.

What is your personal message to students?

I enjoy spending time researching teaching resources and materials and in preparing classes tailored specifically to the needs of each individual student. I have a very kind, friendly and caring nature and am very concerned about the happiness and success of all of my students. I endeavour to make students feel as happy and motivated as possible in class and to build their confidence with the Spanish language as much as possible.
