I studied Philosophy & History at Southampton University and qualified with first class honours whilst competing around the world for the British Sailing Team. Balancing the two forced me to create innovative ways to use my study time most efficiently. I now run a successful social media marketing business which in the last year has spent £15,000 on Facebook adverts. I run workshops for local businesses on Instagram marketing. For over 10 years I have enjoyed teaching dinghy sailors of all abilities to numerous successes. As a professional marketer I can't understand why most teachers don't use psychology to make their teaching more effective and engaging. Getting a student engaged in their subject is most of the battle and it's always possible. But what makes learning engaging depends on the student's personality & learning type. Together we will quickly discover this and formulate a way of teaching and a plan of action that will teach the subject in the most effective way. I will teach every student study skills that are personalised to them and make clever use of their time. Due to the nature of my job I am relatively flexible but as I am in high demand I can only teach a total of 10 hours a week.

I am a very experienced, warm, approachable and informal teacher that values how important a positive relationship with tutees and family is. My focus is on building self esteem and confidence - the key to progress. I have over fifteen years experience teaching social sciences to A Level, GCSE and undergraduate students ( in class rooms and privately) and over this time I have built up tried and tested techniques for success and to work to exam board specifications. My particular approach is to normally mix subject content with exam and study skills and application (timed essays for instance for A Level or practise questions), but I try to create an ‘individualised’ plan and bespoke approach for each particular student that I constantly re assess and adapt. I have had great success with most of my private students over the years, with most improving their grades and going on to university. I have up to date safeguarding training, a fully enhanced dbs, a BA Hons, MA, DTTLS (QTS) and Cert in FE Teaching. I offer a mobile service, so students can see me in their own homes or have online tuition. (prices differ depending on location and form of tuition, currently £20 ph for online tuition or within 5 mile radius of my home, £25 if I travel more than 5 miles, £30 for more than 20 miles). I always offer a free informal meeting to discuss and plan tuition and to break the ice.

I am a former UK Civil Servant with a BSc. in Politics and an M.A. in British History from the University of London, with excellent verbal and written communication skills and a passion for teaching. I currently work at the Law Society of England and Wales. I'm an experienced tutor, having successfully worked with students at both secondary and university levels to prepare them for exams and help with thesis preparation. Other experiences include job-based mentoring and coaching, and teaching English as a second language, and my education and career have given me a sophisticated understanding of and passion for British and global history, the law, and contemporary politics. I approach teaching by taking the time to learn each student's needs and motivations and tailoring my approach accordingly. I believe effective teaching is a partnership and a good tutor approaches teaching believing he can learn as much from his students as they will from him. I am happy to teach all ages and levels whether learning's for course work, exams, career, or just for fun.

I currently tutor both GCSE/A Level English as well as GCSE/A Level/Undergraduate Degree politics. Having previously studied politics at A Level and then International Relations with Political Science at the University of Birmingham and the University of Minnesota, I have gone on to have a successful career in British politics, working alongside the last two Prime Ministers. I now find myself tutoring alongside my job for one of the biggest and most influential think tanks in the UK. My current students include politics students at A Level and Degree level. Previously I have also studied English up until University and during a year studying abroad at the University of Minnesota (USA), I studied English language and literature. I am able to offer one to one sessions in person or online and I can be incredibly flexible to your needs. Please do let me know if you have any other questions and I will be delighted to answer them for you.
