Hi. I'm Dr Ana Miller. I have a PhD in English literature and ten years of teaching experience at various levels (primary, secondary, GCSE, 'A' levels, university). While my main subject is English, I also have extensive experience within the humanities, teaching media studies, art, history and critical thinking. I am friendly, professional and passionate about my subjects and I believe in encouraging my students to access their enthusiasm to unlock their potential. I believe in an active and student-centred approach to learning whereby I provide the support and expertise that enables my students to play a central role in their own learning and development. My approach is to draw out my students' interest in their subject in order to develop their confidence and ability to engage academically in the most effective way. It is important when teaching to develop this enthusiasm within the structure of the particular syllabus or course outline - I encourage my students to understand and respond to what is being asked of them, whether it be for an assignment, presentation or exam. I also aim to develop my students' ability to respond to and structure ideas and arguments in a logical and clear way.

Hello, I’m a online tutor with a passion for my subjects! I want students to feel comfortable with these subjects and use them to excel in their learning. I am a fully qualified teacher with a PGCE in Lifelong Learning. I also hold a BA in History and Film Studies. I have experience of teaching students in the age range of 11-19, teaching History, Film and Media Studies. I have experience of teaching these subjects at different levels from GCSE to A level. I also have experience in university applications, coursework and exam preparation. I don’t believe in a “one size fits all” approach. As a result of this I like to tailor my testing strategies and approaches based on the individual student. After my initial consultation with the student, I then prepare a lesson plan and timetable based on their individual needs and deadlines. I look forward to working with you!

I am passionate about helping students become who they are capable of being, through creativity, imagination, conviction, and sensitivity. I have over 9 years in the marketing and advertising industry, working on household name brands at some of the most established creative agencies in the world. I want to give back by sharing this knowledge with aspiring students. I also have a First Class (honours) degree in Journalism. I have been a teacher since 2001, mainly teaching English as a second language as well as English for overseas study preparation. In my home country (Indonesia), I also taught Mathematics - primary level in an international school, for two years, and lectured in Business Communications and English for Tourism for over four years. Currently I am tutoring EAP (IELTS, TOEFL, FCE, CAE), ESOL, Business English and Indonesian language for private clients. My professional background: I worked for a number of years as a journalist, copywriter, translator and interpreter. I have worked in Australia, the USA, Indonesia, Denmark, Spain, and the U.K. I wrote news in politics and economics, and, being a freelance reporter, I also covered lifestyle articles such as travel and tourism, food and restaurant reviews, and cultures. My academic background: I graduated from RMIT University in Australia, majoring in Journalism and minoring in Public Relations. On my final year there, I received a scholarship that allowed me to study in the USA for two semesters. In 2012 I received a scholarship from the EU to study in Denmark, with a mobility scheme to Spain and the U.K. as well. I completed my study in 2014, with a Master's in Lifelong Learning, in which I studied and analysed education policies worldwide. I studied Philosophy & History at Southampton University and qualified with first class honours whilst competing around the world for the British Sailing Team. Balancing the two forced me to create innovative ways to use my study time most efficiently. I now run a successful social media marketing business which in the last year has spent £15,000 on Facebook adverts. I run workshops for local businesses on Instagram marketing. For over 10 years I have enjoyed teaching dinghy sailors of all abilities to numerous successes. As a professional marketer I can't understand why most teachers don't use psychology to make their teaching more effective and engaging. Getting a student engaged in their subject is most of the battle and it's always possible. But what makes learning engaging depends on the student's personality & learning type. Together we will quickly discover this and formulate a way of teaching and a plan of action that will teach the subject in the most effective way. I will teach every student study skills that are personalised to them and make clever use of their time. Due to the nature of my job I am relatively flexible but as I am in high demand I can only teach a total of 10 hours a week.

I have lectured and tutored at Exeter, Plymouth and Falmouth Universities for over 20 years in Photography, Film, Graphic Design, Fine Art, Theatre, Animation, Interior Design, Advertising, English and Illustration. I have supervised more than 500 BA dissertations. Many of my students have been dyslexic, dyspraxic or have had bad experiences in writing and reading in education. My speciality has been to help students who have found studying arduous by showing them how to use other seemingly unrelated skills to unlock their abilities with words. I have also helped many children understand Maths. I am patient and passionate about the role of tutoring in unlocking potential in education at all levels.

I am a very experienced, warm, approachable and informal teacher that values how important a positive relationship with tutees and family is. My focus is on building self esteem and confidence - the key to progress. I have over fifteen years experience teaching social sciences to A Level, GCSE and undergraduate students ( in class rooms and privately) and over this time I have built up tried and tested techniques for success and to work to exam board specifications. My particular approach is to normally mix subject content with exam and study skills and application (timed essays for instance for A Level or practise questions), but I try to create an ‘individualised’ plan and bespoke approach for each particular student that I constantly re assess and adapt. I have had great success with most of my private students over the years, with most improving their grades and going on to university. I have up to date safeguarding training, a fully enhanced dbs, a BA Hons, MA, DTTLS (QTS) and Cert in FE Teaching. I offer a mobile service, so students can see me in their own homes or have online tuition. (prices differ depending on location and form of tuition, currently £20 ph for online tuition or within 5 mile radius of my home, £25 if I travel more than 5 miles, £30 for more than 20 miles). I always offer a free informal meeting to discuss and plan tuition and to break the ice.

I am an English BA student who studied at the University of Bristol from 2016 to 2019, graduating with a 2:1 grade. I am now continuing my studies at the University of Bristol by pursuing an MA in Film and Television. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I am unsure when I will graduate from my MA as all teaching has been cut. As a product of this, I am looking to fill my time with teaching students who made need online help during this period of uncertainty. In my first year of university, I volunteered as a home tutor for primary school children with Jacari Bristol, a scheme which helps tutor children where English is not their first language. I really enjoyed making each lesson stimulating and fun and would enjoy getting back into a tutoring environment. I have A-Levels in English (A), Media Studies (A) and History (B) so am ideally looking to tutor A-level students or GCSE students. However, my experience with primary school children equally means I am keen to help anyone with their learning, and hope I can help inspire students during this period of isolation.
