Ciao! I'm Esmond. I'm a writer, composer, director and artist, and prizewinning History finalist at the University of Oxford, with experience of a broad range of learning environments and teaching styles, and substantial industry experience in music and the creative arts. Deeply passionate about my subjects, I'm dedicated to each of my students and enthusiastic about sharing the joy of learning with them. I have extensive knowledge across the Arts and Humanities, especially in history, music, art and literature. I tutor History, Music, History of Art and Latin to A-Level and IB, and English, Design and Technology (Graphic Design route) and Maths to GCSE/IGCSE. I also provide mentoring, including guidance on personal statements, submitted work, admissions tests and interviews, for students applying to study History and related subjects at both Oxbridge and other universities. More broadly, I work with students at all levels to develop essay writing, research, problem-solving and study skills. Taking a student-centred approach, I place emphasis on developing a deep-seated intrinsic passion for learning in my students and on encouraging them to think independently, critically and originally.

Hi. I'm Dr Ana Miller. I have a PhD in English literature and ten years of teaching experience at various levels (primary, secondary, GCSE, 'A' levels, university). While my main subject is English, I also have extensive experience within the humanities, teaching media studies, art, history and critical thinking. I am friendly, professional and passionate about my subjects and I believe in encouraging my students to access their enthusiasm to unlock their potential. I believe in an active and student-centred approach to learning whereby I provide the support and expertise that enables my students to play a central role in their own learning and development. My approach is to draw out my students' interest in their subject in order to develop their confidence and ability to engage academically in the most effective way. It is important when teaching to develop this enthusiasm within the structure of the particular syllabus or course outline - I encourage my students to understand and respond to what is being asked of them, whether it be for an assignment, presentation or exam. I also aim to develop my students' ability to respond to and structure ideas and arguments in a logical and clear way.

I know that engaging a tutor can be nerve-wracking. From embarking on a search, to the first session, to exam dates, it can be a fraught experience. But I have the experience and the sensitivity to make this experience smooth, engaging and even enjoyable. I have a wealth of experience, tutoring for almost 5 years, since leaving Cambridge University with a degree in History of Art. My greatest skill lies in being able to put both students and parents at ease, through a combination of engaging activities, pitched at a comfortably challenging level, and delivered with confidence. This is partly helped by the fact that I act and direct alongside my tutoring. I can transform your framework of learning to make objectives manageable and tailored, and to find ways of helping you shape and realise your own ambitions. Using a combination of tested methods of increasing engagement and a constant process of adapting my style to each student, I have achieved remarkable successes with my students. This success includes academic achievements, but I am most proud of the consistency with which I have fostered passion and confidence in the subjects we study together. I love new people, new perspectives and new ways of working, and I look forward to meeting you!

Hi, I am currently finishing a second MA degree in intellectual and art history (Warburg Institute); I studied Classics (Greek and Latin) as an undergraduate and received a first MA in Egyptology (Oxford). While finishing off my masters, I am working as an English tutor teaching year 9 and 10. I am passionate about history, languages, philosophy and literature, and I would be very interested in teaching these and related subjects to prospective students. I am happy to give a free 30-minute lesson so you can see if I am the right tutor for you. During the free lesson, I can also assess key areas that we can work on going forward. Materials and homework are included in each class that I teach, which are tailored to each student. Due to the current situation regarding COVID-19, I am more than happy to teach online via skype etc. This will be at a slightly lower rate. Please do not hesitate to ask me any further questions. Kind regards, Chris.

I have lectured and tutored at Exeter, Plymouth and Falmouth Universities for over 20 years in Photography, Film, Graphic Design, Fine Art, Theatre, Animation, Interior Design, Advertising, English and Illustration. I have supervised more than 500 BA dissertations. Many of my students have been dyslexic, dyspraxic or have had bad experiences in writing and reading in education. My speciality has been to help students who have found studying arduous by showing them how to use other seemingly unrelated skills to unlock their abilities with words. I have also helped many children understand Maths. I am patient and passionate about the role of tutoring in unlocking potential in education at all levels.
