I am a 20-year-old enthusiastic, experienced tutor studying at Durham University. I am passionate about teaching and I love helping people to understand and develop their own ideas- I find tutoring an extremely rewarding job. I have been tutoring and mentoring students since I was in school; for a year I tutored a GCSE Further Maths student and a GCSE History student whilst studying for my A-levels. I am currently tutoring 12 students, ranging in age from 6-18, in A-Level Maths and PE, GCSE/IGCSE Maths, History, English and PE and Primary English and Maths. Achieving 3 A*s in my A-Levels and straight A*s in my GCSEs means that I know the curriculums very well and know how to answer exam questions. I have found that being a young tutor has its benefits, as being of a closer age to the student enables me to relate to them easily and they often feel less pressured and more open to ask questions to someone of a more similar age. My experience of tutoring has enabled me to adapt to different teaching styles appropriate for different students and find varied delivery methods, as I understand that everyone learns differently.

Having qualified as a Primary School Teacher in 2011, I have experiencing of teaching across both Key Stage 1 and 2 and preparing students for SATS, 11+ and entrance exams. I believe in making learning fun and relatable to each individual and in turn memorable. I am confident teaching any area of the primary curriculum with a particular specialism in maths. I’m also passionate about using technology to enhance the teaching and learning process and if possible would place this at the heart of my teaching. Prior to the tutoring commencing, I believe it is important to talk with the child to find out what makes them tick and from there develop a way of learning that suits them and enables us to achieve the best outcomes. I’m happy to travel and find a time that suits both parties but most importantly find a time where that suits the individual.

I know that engaging a tutor can be nerve-wracking. From embarking on a search, to the first session, to exam dates, it can be a fraught experience. But I have the experience and the sensitivity to make this experience smooth, engaging and even enjoyable. I have a wealth of experience, tutoring for almost 5 years, since leaving Cambridge University with a degree in History of Art. My greatest skill lies in being able to put both students and parents at ease, through a combination of engaging activities, pitched at a comfortably challenging level, and delivered with confidence. This is partly helped by the fact that I act and direct alongside my tutoring. I can transform your framework of learning to make objectives manageable and tailored, and to find ways of helping you shape and realise your own ambitions. Using a combination of tested methods of increasing engagement and a constant process of adapting my style to each student, I have achieved remarkable successes with my students. This success includes academic achievements, but I am most proud of the consistency with which I have fostered passion and confidence in the subjects we study together. I love new people, new perspectives and new ways of working, and I look forward to meeting you!

My mission is to ignite a life-long love of learning in my students whilst building their confidence and self-esteem. I am a big believer in encouraging children to be brave, not be afraid of making mistakes and stepping out of their comfort zone (even just a little step!). Sometimes they just need a little encouragement to start believing in themselves and being ambitious. I have heaps of effective, positive strategies for building young learners` confidence and igniting a passion for life long learning!

Helen is a vibrant, enthusiastic tutor who places emphasis on tutee’s confidence and relationship to education within her structured lessons. She works hard to enable students to think independently and creatively and most importantly, to enjoy their extra study time outside of school. Helen tailors her lessons and teaching style to each individual tutee’s needs ensuring that they can make the most out of the lesson. She has helped several students pass various exams including gaining places on the highly competitive English bilingual program at the Lysee International de Londres. Having been through the 11+ system herself (and gaining scholarships to several schools) Helen understands the pressure and stress of the application and the best ways to make it as enjoyable as possible for tutees and parents alike. She is also experienced teaching SEN, having several long term relationships with dyslexic, dyspraxic and autistic students. Helen specialises in English, exam prep and general study support. She has been a visiting tutor at many educational establishments, including the Pippa Poppins nursery in West London and so has experience teaching across all ages. Her youngest students have been three years old and her oldest are currently in their fifties. Outside of teaching, Helen is an enthusiastic cook, an avid theatre goer and loves going to galleries and taking advantage of the many cultural opportunities in South London and across the city.

Experienced English Literature/Philosophy graduate of the University of East Anglia, providing private tuition up to GCSE level in English Language/Literature and Maths, across South-East London and online. Since returning from seven months teaching English in a grammar school in India, I have worked regularly as a self-employed 1:1 private tutor, gradually accumulating great reviews and many repeat, long-term students, working with a large and varied clientele, mainly via reputable tuition agency Tutorful (formerly Tutora) I also work in a group tuition centre for Students Achieve in Croydon, where I take control of small, weekly group classes of various ages and ability. I have gained true job satisfaction, always striving to evoke a rise in students` confidence, a much firmer grasp of the language and an improvement in exam success. I look forward in the future to assisting many more people in this way. I push students to work hard, yet I am patient, and relate very well to youngsters. I also have very strong SEN teaching experience. My online teaching experience is ever-increasingly vast; I have been extremely pleased with the effectiveness of this method of teaching. I`ve found it to be even more fruitful a platform of learning for some students. I used to focus solely on physical one-to-one teaching - however, ever since social distancing guidelines were adopted, the majority of my lessons have been conducted online. We can share files/screens/discuss exam extracts/practise essay writing etc, and study all aspects of English in much the same way as we would in person. If you would like to arrange a tuition session or have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am a qualified and experienced Primary school teacher, who has been certified with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). As an experienced tutor with 3 degrees (History BA, Political Science MA and a Bachelors of Education) I have more the subject knowledge, which is necessary to teach the Primary curriculum as well as English, Politics and History at Masters level. In addition to my extensive academic studies, I also have over four years of experience as a primary school teacher, which means I am more than familiar with the Primary curriculum. This also means I am excellent at delivering well-planned and well-structured lessons, which can be altered to meet the needs of different pupils (whether that is an SEN child or a greater depth child). I excel at assessing pupils regularly an identifying areas of weakness, so I know exactly which areas the pupil needs to develop on, thus maximising progress in the shortest amount of time (which in turn saves the parent money!). Furthermore, I have been employed as a tutor, who specialises in the teaching of Maths and English for 3-11 year olds. During this role, my primary role was tutoring 11+ pupils, so I am familiar with the structure and content of 11+ papers and I am effective in motivating pupils to ensure they reach their true potential.
