Maths Tutors in Derby and Maths Tutoring in Derby
Hello, I am passionate about reading, writing and teaching and learning. I am a naturally calm, friendly and patient person, which helps to create a calm and purposeful atmosphere and make the learner feel comfortable and confident. I like to plan and structure each tutoring session meticulously so no time is wasted and outstanding teacher and learning is achieved. Furthermore, I create interesting, fun and accessible resources which stimulate and challenge all students at every level. My qualifications include a 2:1 degree, with honours, in English Literature, a PGCE in English and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). I have been working in secondary schools teaching years seven to thirteen for more than twelve years (ten years were spent in an outstanding secondary school). I have experience of teaching and marking the new 9-1 GCSEs in English Language and Literature, Media and Mathematics. I have worked with a wide range of ability students and I am considered to be an outstanding teacher. My very first Ofsted lesson was graded 'Outstanding', which I am very proud and therefore always attempt to make all lessons outstanding. To relax, I enjoy reading, football, cricket and spending quality time with my family and our dog, Jess. We enjoy long walks in the countryside and learning about history walking around towns, cities and villages.

A graduate of the University of Nottingham (Economics), I completed my teacher training (at University of Derby) in Mathematics. It`s one of those subjects that is so useful, outside of the realm of mathematics proper but also sometimes quite inaccessible to many and so I like to provide as much support as I can. I find that the beauty of 1:2:1 tutoring is that one can get to know the person learning the subject directly. What is their current strengths? Perhaps even in a separate subject, even. Utilising that to help maths make sense. And, I welcome lots of questions too. I enjoyed delivering training to staff in my previous career and thought I'd look to teaching, which I moved over to in 2017, which I thoroughly enjoy. I've also been able to deliver an online GCSE Maths programme at my college, and have engaged in some exciting research in engaging students in mathematics and developing problem solving. I've been been tutoring now for 8 years (although there was a quiet spell thanks to the dreaded COVID!) and it's one of the best things ever! I can't wait to meet you.

I am a 22-year-old, enthusiastic new tutor who has recently graduated with a First Class in mathematics from Keele University. I have a passion for teaching maths to people who don't find it comes very naturally to them, and it's incredibly rewarding watching students find the excitement in maths that I have always felt for it since I was young. I find that the small age gap between myself and the students helps me to relate to them and help them understand the topic at hand with ease.

I have qualified teacher status and have 15 years’ experience in education within a primary school setting, including middle leadership roles as Science Subject Lead and working within the Maths team. I have taught primary school children of all ages in my career as a teacher, mainly Upper Key Stage 2, using a variety of teaching methods. These include mainly classroom teaching, small group booster sessions and more recently, remote learning. Not only has my subject knowledge been demonstrated throughout my teaching role, but I also have gained many skills and attributes, including teamwork, leadership skills and time-management skills. I am also a confident communicator with adults, as well as children.
