I am a third year History and Politics student at Queen Mary University of London. I am motivated and fascinated by my subjects, specialising in 20th Century British History. I am looking to go into education after my degree and have spent my time at university gaining as much experience as possible in this area. I have privately tutored a number of different students working at different levels. These have ranged from Reception to Year 5 and ranged from being struggling significantly to needing pushing further. I have also worked with children with SEN. I have tailored my approach to each child, with some working alongside their school work and with others filling gaps from school. Before starting to privately tutor I was a senior tutor with Explore Learning, teaching general Maths and English to a wide range of children aged 4-15 on a 1 to 6 ratio.

Nine years ago I began tutoring at a tuition centre and I have been doing it ever since. I started off in a tuition centre for a few years and have been privately tutoring for the last four years. My love for tutoring and watching children grow and develop a passion for learning has kept me loving the job. My full time job as a mental health nurse working with young people has given me different perspectives on how best to work with children and how to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.

I am a recent economics graduate. I achieved a first in BSc Economics. Whilst at university I worked as a tutor, where I planned and delivered sessions that consisted of maths problems to help students understand how economics could be applied to mathematics. My approach to tutoring is to guide students towards an answer by encouraging them to recall theory, or explaining theory to them so they can then apply it.

I am a mature family woman, educated to Ph.D. level. For the last twenty years I have tutored Creative Writing, ESOL, Maths and English, both in the UK and overseas, up to and including university level, in classrooms and privately. My students have been as young as six or as old as sixty, of varying abilities and from hugely different backgrounds. Regardless of the tutee’s ability, I take pleasure in helping her/him achieve his/her potential as far as possible. One of my tutees who was barely literate and numerate at 16 went on not only to pass her exams but to become a teacher herself. Another is now herself a senior maths and science teacher. I take equal pride in my contribution to the achievements of both these young women. Alongside tutoring I freelance as a writer, editor and proof-reader. I am an award-winning and widely published short story writer and have written for mainstream newspapers and magazines dealing with educational issues, as well as for magazines geared towards young people. I have also had academic papers published both in the UK and abroad. My wide writing experience enables me to offer students at universities and colleges guidance in: -Developing a critical approach to reading / research -Learning how to analyse materials -Clarifying ideas -Understanding how academic papers should be structured -Writing critically -Finding strategies to overcome weaknesses early in their studies I provide a sounding board for students' ideas before they are presented in seminars, papers or tutorials. I am also available to proofread assignments and suggest ways in which they may be edited before submission.

I am a second year Chemistry Student at the university of York. For A levels I achieved A* in Chemistry, A* in Maths and A in Computer Science. At GCSE level I achieved 9 A* and 2 A including A* in all Sciences, Maths and Computer Science. When tutoring I like to focus on answering specific homework or exam practice questions to ensure that the tutee not only understands the context, but also the exam technique. There is also a large element of increasing confidence. When you are confident about the subject your are revising you are much more likely to take the information in. I especially appreciate the important of study habits and I will work with the tutee to identify any technique gaps and work to find suitable solutions to make even the hardest content available to anyone. In my personal life I spend a lot of time working closely with charities in the Non-Profit industry and as a result I have developed strong interpersonal skills as well as problem-solving and effective communication skills.
